Signed a memorandum with Joyful Honda for joint promotion of SGEC/PEFC certification

On April 12, 2024, SGEC/PEFC Japan and Joyful Honda Co., Ltd. ,selected as the third "champion company" aiming to conserve and use sustainably managed forest resources, signed a MOU memorandum  for joint promotion of SGEC/PEFC certification. The signing ceremony was attended by more than 30 people, including reporters from various media and people from the paper and timber industries.

Minamiaizu Town Uses SGEC-certified Timber in Harmony with Environment

Minamiaizu Town in Fukushima Pref. is committed to conseving biodiversity and revitalizing the local economy through SGEC-certified forest management.  The town has contributed to sustainable approaches by constructing a new town hall using timber supplied from local SGEC-certified forests and by operating a public facility called "Kitone".

New Approaches with SGEC Certification in Gunma Pref.

Kawaba Village in Gunma Pref. and the Tonenumata Forest Owner's Association promote sustainable forest management through SGEC certification to conserve the local environment and revitalize the local economy.  The sustainable use of forest resources has been achieved by utilizing SGEC certified local timber for construction, biomass power generation in local industries and facilities

Glamping trailer house using SGEC certified materials exhibited at  "Roadside Rest Stop " in Yamagata Prefecture and permanently installed in Ginza!

a'D and C co. inc. (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan) developed glamping trailer houses made of SGEC-certified timber.  The design incorporated the concept of raising disaster awareness and a sustainable disaster prevention measure using environmentally friendly SGEC-certified materials.  These trailers were displayed at the "Iida" Roadside Rest Stop in Yamagata Pref. and later permanently instoled in the Ginza area of Tokyo from May 2024.

SGEC/PEFC Japan recieved Fifth SDGs Study Visit  of  JH Students School Children

On April 23, 2024, SGEC/PEFC Japan  received six school children on a school trip from Iwami Junior High School in Tottori Pref. and gave a lecture as part of the "SDGs Study Visit & Learning Program”.  This lecture focused on the importance of forests, the impact of deforestation, and the forest certification system as a countermeasure to global warming and how they, as consumers, could take actions in their daily life.

“Find SGEC and PEFC Marks! Campaign” to Start in June Again

"Find SGEC and PEFC Marks! Campaign”  on X (formerly Twitter) will be implemented again this June, during Environmet Month. This campaign  was planned aiming at raising awearness of the importance of forest certification and of the SGEC and PEFC  logo marks.  Further details of the campaign will be announced on the official SGEC/PEFC Japan X account at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3.

Online Mini-Seminar from Basics to Latest Info. on Forest Certification

The seventh webinar in the "Brand & Future☆Mini Seminar" series, started 2 years ago and held on April 24, 2024, was attended by over 200 people, which showed the high interest in forest certification. The webinar covered the basics knowledge of forest certification, to the latest information on PEFC, and how to obtain CoC certification, and FAQs such as “are PEFC standards weaker than those of FSC?”, and received around 20 questions from participants. Through this webinar, it is expected that people in charge of SDGs, sales and procurement, etc. from a diverse range of industries, including certified companies, were given better understanding on forest certification.
Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral under Reconstruction as PEFC Certified Project

The Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, damaged by fire on April 15, 2019, is currently undergoing reconstruction as a PEFC-certified project.  This project involves the full reconstruction of the building using PEFC-certified wood (solid oak) for the roof.  The use of sustainable PEFC-certified materials in this world-class historical building has attracted international attention.
